The basic rule of thumb when it comes to picking the right accommodation in Tokyo is “stay near public transportation” because while Tokyo might be massive it is very well connected by it’s extensive and reliable public transport. In particular, staying near a JR Yamanote Line (loop line) is the most practical choice since most of Tokyo’s top attractions are near or within this loop (such as Shinjuku, Shibuya, Harajuku, Akihabara, and Ueno).

The best areas to stay in Tokyo for convenience and accessibility are Shinjuku and Tokyo Station. These areas are ideal for first-timers, solo travelers, traveling as a family/group or with children, and traveling for under a week in Tokyo.

• Shinjuku is a practical choice if your itinerary consists of traveling within Tokyo as well as day trips to Tokyo Disneyland, Mt. Fuji, and Hakone.
• Tokyo Station is a practical choice if your itinerary consists of traveling within Tokyo and other regions in Japan (such as Osaka, Kyoto, etc.), for easier access to Shinkansen (bullet train). (JR PASS).
• Shunjuku and Tokyo Station are close to each other so staying at any of them is fine, but if I have to choose one between the two, I will go for Shinjuku due it’s broader access to tourists needs.

I. HOW TO APPLY FOR NEPAL VISA-ON-ARRIVAL (STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE)

STEP 1: Determine the type of Nepal Visa you need to apply for.

All foreign nationalities excluding Indians are required to obtain a Visa for Nepal and depending on your situation or purpose, there are different types of Nepal Visas you can apply for, (such as work visa, marriage visa, etc.).

This guide is about how to apply and obtain Nepal Tourist Visa on Arrival, only if your purpose of visit is Short-term or for Leisure/Tourism and you are NOT a citizen or national of the following countries; Afghanistan, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iraq, Liberia, Nigeria, Palestine, Somalia, Swaziland, and Zimbabwe — As they need to apply and obtain for a Visa at the Nepal Embassy/Consulate of their home country or country of residence. Otherwise, they will be refused to enter nor even board their flights to Nepal. On the other hand, Indian citizens/nationals are not required to obtain a Visa, nor even a passport to enter Nepal, but a Valid ID.

All other foreign nationalities (including Philippine passport holders) are qualified for Visa on Arrival in Nepal (proceed on STEP 2). But if you have a different situation or intention/s of visit, it’s best to directly contact the Embassy of Nepal or Diplomatic Mission in your country or country of residence for more information. For Filipinos based in the Philippines, you may contact Consulate of Nepal in Manila.

STEP 2: Prepare for Nepal Visa on Arrival Requirements prior to your arrival.

Nepal Visa on Arrival Requirements List;

1. Passport (with 6 months’ remaining validity upon arrival in Nepal).

• It must also have at least 1 blank page for Nepal Visa and stamps.
• Photocopy of the passport’s bio-page.

TIP! Nepal Visa, Arrival, and Departure stamps can eat up 1 page of your passport, so make sure to have enough blank pages on your passport, especially if you are connecting or still traveling to other countries after departing from Nepal.

2. One (1) Passport-sized (35mm x 45mm) Photograph (with light background).

TIP! If your point of entry is Tribhuvan International (Kathmandu) Airport, there’s a photo booth upon arrival available for (200 NPR).

3. Visa Fee (from 30, 50 up to 125 USD).

TIP! Make sure to bring the exact cash amount (as much as possible) in US Dollar (USD) because while other online sources claim that payment can be made in other currencies, in my experience they ONLY accept US Dollar. NOT even Credit Card, Indian Rupees, nor Nepalese Rupees are accepted as payment for visa fees. (Fees can be found on STEP 4)

4. Possible Additional Requirements.

You may be asked to present a return flight ticket, hotel reservation, and/or proof of funds.

NOTE: I said “possible additional requirements” because in my case, I was only asked for my passport and photograph, but I noticed a few tourists were asked to provide these documents. So, it’s still best to have it handy to avoid complications in your travel if you were to be asked.

STEP 3: Apply for a Visa upon Arrival in Nepal.

How to Apply for Nepal Visa-On-Arrival:

A.) Tribhuvan International (Kathmandu) Airport (this is the only “international” airport in Nepal).

1. Fill up the “Arrival Card” upon landing at the airport (this can be found at arrival hall).
2. Fill up the “Tourist Visa Application Form” (this is different from the ‘arrival card’) and there are three (3) ways to accomplish the form depending on your preference;
   • ONLINE: You can fill-up the form on this link, but note that you will be asked for a scanned copy of your passport’s bio page, passport-size photo, and the address of your hotel in Nepal. Also, this must be done within 15 days prior to your arrival in Nepal. Once done, you will get a “receipt with barcode”, make sure to bring the printed copy of it for acquiring a visa on arrival.
   • KIOSK/MACHINE: You can fill-up the form, scan your passport’s bio page, and have your photo taken using the Automated Kiosk/Machine available at the airport’s arrival hall.
   • MANUAL: If the first 2 are not available or you prefer to fill up the form this way, then the “Tourist Visa Application Form” can also be found at the airport’s arrival hall and your actual passport-size photo is needed on this form.

TIP! Automated Kiosk/Machine is the easiest and fastest way to accomplish the form, (in my opinion). It only took me less than 5 minutes!

B.) Nepal Land Border Crossings/Ports (from China and India).

The Land Border Crossings/Ports that can facilitate Visa on Arrival from India-Nepal are Nepalgani, Birganj/Raxaul Bazar, Sunauli, Kakarbhitta, Manhendranagar, and Dhangadhi. Nepal Visa on Arrival can be easily obtained from these borders, but make sure to bring the required documents (stated above on STEP 2) to avoid complications in your entry to Nepal.

NOTE: Boarders from China to Nepal; Zhangmu-Kodari (is currently closed), while Gyirong-Rasuwa Ports CAN’T facilitate Visa on Arrival. Also, if you are joining the “Tibet Nepal Overland Tour”, then a Nepal Visa is required prior to your arrival in Nepal. So, make sure to ask for assistance from your tour company before booking such tours. Most importantly, it’s best to contact the nearest (Nepal Embassy) prior to your intended arrival to clarify requirements or procedures in certain borders to avoid complications in your travels.

C.) Nepal Embassy/Consulate of your country of residence.

Obviously, this is not a Visa on Arrival anymore, but if A and B won’t work for you OR you simply want to secure a Tourist Visa prior to your arrival in Nepal, then you are left with no other options but to apply directly to the Nepal Embassy/Consulate in your home country or country of residence.

TIP! In my opinion, getting a Visa On Arrival at Kathmandu Airport is the most convenient way to apply and obtain a Nepal Tourist Visa among others.

STEP 4: Pay for the Visa fee.

Visa On Arrival is Single-Entry and fees differ depending on your intended length of stay in Nepal as follows;

• 15 Days – 30 USD
• 30 Days – 50 USD
• 90 Days – 125 USD
  • Multiple-Entry Visa – 20 USD (on top of the base fee above).
  • As mentioned before, this must be paid in US Dollars (cash only).

GRATIS VISA (Visa for Free), The Visa On Arrival Fee is waived ONLY if you are one of the following;

• Children, 10 years old and below.
• Chinese nationals.
• Non-Residential Nepalese (NRN) card holder and must be issued by MoFA/Nepalese diplomatic missions abroad.
• SAARC Citizens (excluding Afghanistan) who are visiting Nepal only for the first time in a year. These countries are; Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
  • Afghan Citizens can only qualify for ‘gratis visa’ upon the recommendation of the Department of Immigration.

STEP 5: Proceed to the Immigration Desk.

Proceed to the Immigration Desk and bring your passport along with the online form, and payment receipts then submit them to the immigration officer for visa processing.

NOTE: Visa is issued upon immigration officer’s satisfaction with your application (so, make sure to have your documents ready). In my experience when I submitted my documents, I was asked by the officer on how long will I stay and if it was my first time in Nepal, then after that I was welcomed to Nepal with a warm smile. And I hope you are too!

II. VISA EXTENSION or CHANGE OF VISA TYPE

After obtaining your Nepal Visa. Changes can be requested as follows;

A) Single-Entry Visa to Multiple-Entry Visa: This can be requested at Kathmandu’s Central Immigration Office with a corresponding fee of $20 USD.

B) Visa Extensions: If you wish to extend the duration of your stay in Nepal then you need to go to either Kathmandu or Pokhara’s Immigration Office to properly file a visa extension for up to 150 days. The corresponding fees are $30 for 15 days and additional $2 per day thereafter, payable in Nepalese rupees. Travel agencies can do the visa extension request on your behalf for a fee. Otherwise, you’ll be charged 3 USD per day, if overstayed for the first 30 days and additional $2 USD fee per day for visa extension (something you should NOT consider)!

The Indian E-Visa fee varies depending on which website you submitted your application (including the number of entries and validity of E-Visa you selected. It’s basically how and where you obtain your E-Visa.

NOTE: Prepare certain details/information of your travel in India such as intended entry and exit dates, name of air/seaport (point of entry), your hotels address, and contact number in India.

STEP 3: Apply for an Indian E-Visa Online.

How to apply for an Indian E-Visa Online

Go to the Indian Visa Online website.

• Click on “e-Visa Application” and;
• Fill out a short form (and make sure to tick e-Tourist Visa, then the number of entries you prefer before clicking “Continue“. On the next page;
• Fill out the long form and make sure all details are correct, specially for passport details (and email because that’s where you will receive your E-Visa).

NOTE: For the question regarding your “References in India”, if you don’t have any, then that means, hotel’s information that you will be staying in India. Paid hotel booking is NOT a requirement, but you can Reserve one online (for FREE) through Agoda.com with a REFUNDABLE option if you cancel it a day before your intended stay. That way, you can also fill up the exact address and contact information needed on the application form.

TIP! The ‘Save’ button is meant to record all the details that you have already entered, so you can continue later on. But, for some apparent reasons, it was not working during my time, even the link that they sent me for the ‘pay later’ option, was prompting me to fill out the form All Over Again! Hopefully, you won’t go through the same thing, otherwise I suggest to finish everything in one go, including the payment.

STEP 4: Pay the Visa Fee.

Select either SBI or Axis whichever you prefer, (mine was SBI).

• For SBI, the next page will prompt you to pay via Credit Card, Debit Card or PayPal.
  • Credit Card: Visa and MasterCard are accepted.
  • Debit Card: Visa, MasterCard, and Maestro are accepted.

NOTE: Once Payment is done, you will receive a confirmation with an application ID.

STEP 5: Wait for your E-Visa application results.

According to the email I received; E-Visa application may take up to 72 hours, but I actually got mine in just 32 hours. Yay!

TIP! If approved, it’s always a best practice to check and make sure all information on your E-Visa is correct to avoid complications in your travels. Good Luck!

STEP 6: Print your E-Visa.

Printed copy of your Indian E-Visa is needed by the Immigration upon entry in India.

They will also stamp your E-Visa on your passport, so you won’t need the printed copy after that.

That’s it! This is one of the simplest Visa applications I have ever experienced so far. So, you shouldn’t have any issues in getting your Indian E-Visa, but if you do, it’s best to contact directly the E-Visa Support Center to this email: indiatvoa@gov.in

2. How much is the Indian E-Visa fee?

It depends on many different factors. 1.) What passport you hold, 2.) The Number of Entries of an E-Visa you applied for; 3.) Duration of stay in India 4.) Validity. Plus, A Bank Charge of up to 2.5% of the total value of your E-Visa.

In my case, I hold a Philippine Passport and I applied for 1yr Multiple-Entry E-Visa, I paid 40USD + 1.75USD bank charge = 41.75USD.

The Visa fee for most countries are normally around $40 and above, except for the Citizens of the following countries as follows:

• FREE: Argentina, Cook Islands, Fiji, Jamaica, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Micronesia, Nauru, Niue Island, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Seychelles, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Tonga, Tuvalu, Uruguay, and Vanuatu.
  • $25: Citizens of Japan, Singapore and Sri Lanka.
  • $75: USA, UK, Russia, Ukraine, and Mozambique.

3. Is Indian E-Visa fee refundable?

Once payment is made, it’s no longer refundable regardless of the outcome (Approved/Denied/Withdrew).

4. Do I really need to apply online for an Indian E-Visa?

Online application is the easiest and fastest way to apply, but if you are entering India via Airports/Seaports not listed above, then you need to go to the nearest Indian Embassy and apply for an Indian Visa sticker stamp on your passport.

STEP 1: Determine the type of Visa you need to apply for.

Depending on your purpose, there are different types of Indian Visas you can apply for, (such as business e-visa, medical e-visa, etc.).

This guide is about how to apply for an INDIAN E-TOURIST VISA, but if you are not Philippine passport holder or you will be traveling with other foreign citizens/nationalities, I’ve written a separate guide for that, READ THIS: INDIAN E-VISA GUIDE

E-Visa schemes were launched by the Indian Government for foreigners from more than 165 Countries, who would like to visit India as tourists and this Visa scheme can be applied and obtained 100% online through indiaevisas.org. Fortunately, Philippine passport holders are one of them, but Government of India, set specific requirements to be eligible for the Indian E-Visa scheme.

Who are eligible for Indian E-Visa schemes?

In order to be eligible for an Indian E-Visa scheme you must meet the following criteria as follows;

1. Filipinos/Philippine Passport Holders who are visiting for the purpose of tourism/recreation (sightseeing/tours) or visiting to see friends/relatives who live in India. And;

2. Must have a passport with at least 6 months’ remaining validity prior to your intended travel date.

3. Must NOT be a Diplomatic/Official passport holder nor own a Laissez-passer travel document.

4. Must NOT have a Pakistani Origin up to the third generation including parents or grandparents nor they lived in Pakistan. Otherwise, even if your citizenship is eligible for the E-Visa scheme, you will be disqualified. Lastly, your;

5. Point of Entry should be ONE of the following;

A.) AIRPORTS of: Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bagdogra, Bengaluru, Calicut, Chennai, Chandigarh, Cochin, Coimbatore, Delhi, Gaya, Goa, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mangalore, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Tiruchirapalli, Trivandrum, or Varanasi. OR;

B.) SEA PORTS of: Chennai, Cochin, Goa, Kochi, Mangalore, or Mumbai.

• If you are wondering why just these entry points, it’s because they are the only borders/checkpoints who accept and can facilitate an E-VISA schemes.

NOTE: If you are a Journalist, Intent to work for NGO/volunteering activities, or Intend to attend work conferences in India, there’s a different type of visa for that! Submit your Visa application to Embassy of India in Manila or the nearest Indian Embassy. For all other situations or intentions of visit, it’s best to directly contact the Bureau of Immigration of India for more information.

Now, after careful considerations, and you are sure that you are eligible for an Indian E-Visa scheme based on the criteria listed above, then proceed (to STEP 2).

STEP 2: Prepare For The Indian E-Visa Requirements.

India E-Visa Requirements List for Filipinos;

1. Scanned Passport’s Bio Page and Emergency Page

• Passport must have a signature and;
• Must have at least 6 months’ remaining validity prior to your intended travel date.

2. Scanned Colored Passport-sized Photo

• Photo size: 4.5cm x 4.5cm (against white background).

3. Indian E-Visa Fee

The Indian E-Visa fee varies depending on which website you submitted your application (including the number of entries and validity of E-Visa you selected. It’s basically how and where you obtain your E-Visa.

NOTE: Prepare certain details/information of your travel in India such as intended entry and exit dates, name of air/seaport (point of entry), your hotels address, and contact number in India.

STEP 3: Apply for an Indian E-Visa Online.

How to apply for an Indian E-Visa Online

Go to the Indian Visa Online website.

• Click on “e-Visa Application” and;
• Fill out a short form (and make sure to tick e-Tourist Visa, then the number of entries you prefer before clicking “Continue“. On the next page;
• Fill out the long form and make sure all details are correct, specially for passport details (and email because that’s where you will receive your E-Visa).

NOTE: For the question regarding your “References in India”, if you don’t have any, then that means, hotel’s information that you will be staying in India. Who are eligible foreign nationals to enter India Visa-free?

According to indiaevisas.org, the foreign nationals who are entitled for a Visa-free entry to India (for as long as they are not arriving from China) are from the following countries;

• Bhutan
• Maldives (Up to 90 days stay)
• Nepal
  • Citizens of Bhutan and Nepal may also have the liberty to live or work in India without any limit of stay. In addition, Persons with ‘Indian Origin Card‘ are also entitled for Visa exemption listed here.

I. HOW TO APPLY FOR THE UAE TOURIST VISA (STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE)

STEP 1: Determine the type of Visa you need to apply for.

Depending on your intention or purpose, there are different types of United Arab Emirates (Dubai) Visas you can apply for (such as business visa, resident visa, etc.).

This guide is for those applying for UAE (Dubai) TOURIST VISA, if the purpose of visit is for tourism or to see family and friends who live in the United Arab Emirates.

If you have a different situation or intention/s, it’s best to directly contact the United Arab Emirates’ Government Portal for more information.

STEP 2: Prepare and complete the UAE Visa Requirements.

UAE (Dubai) Tourist Visa Requirements List;

• Passport must have a signature and;

STEP 3: Submit your Visa Application.

In order to submit your application, you need to have a sponsor (either Individual or Nonindividual) from the UAE to process your Visa. This can be a relative or a friend who lives in UAE, an airline, hotel, or a travel agency.

A) FOR INDIVIDUAL SPONSOR: A family or a friend who lives in UAE with a valid Resident Visa or Emirates ID can sponsor you a Visa (or apply on your behalf), just send them the requirements listed above.

If you don’t know any individual who lives in UAE, you may apply through any of the following:

B) FOR AIRLINES: Emirates and Etihad can process your visa, but you need to have a confirmed ticket/s with them before they can sponsor you a visa.

C) FOR HOTELS: Most hotels in UAE can also process a visa, but you must contact them first in their official website or through email in advance.

D) TRAVEL AGENCIES (UAE-BASED): Travel agencies in the UAE are also qualified to process your visa, but make sure to contact them first in their official contact channels.

In my experience, a friend of mine in Dubai took care of my visa application through a travel agency and surprisingly it only took 2 HOURS to get my Visa. Yay!

2. How much is the UAE (Dubai) Visa fee?

In my case, it was around 430AED, but the visa fee varies depending on how you plan to apply and obtain your UAE Visa. You can check the exact rates of the visa fee with your chosen sponsor.

3. Is UAE (Dubai) Visa fee refundable?

Once payment is made, it’s no longer refundable regardless of the outcome (Approved/Denied/Withdrew).

4. Do I need a travel agency to apply for a UAE (Dubai) Visa?

Not really. Travel agency is one way to apply, but it costs a bit more than getting sponsored by someone you know who resides in the UAE or by an airline/hotel.

5. How long is the processing time for an UAE (Dubai) Visa?

I’m not sure exactly, but I got mine in literally just 2 hours (applied by someone I know from the UAE). It should be within a week or less, but better to ask your sponsor beforehand instead.

It depends on the type of visa you applied as follows:

• Transit Visa: Single-Entry valid for 14 days with up to 4days of stay.
• Single-Entry of 60 days validity has up to 30 days of stay.
• Single-Entry of 90 days validity has up to 60 days of stay.
• Multiple-Entry of 60 days validity has up to 30 days of stay.
• Multiple-Entry of 90 days validity has up to 60 days of stay

7. Is ‘show money’ required to apply for an UAE (Dubai) Visa?

It’s not part of the requirement in getting an UAE (Dubai) Visa, but you might be asked by the PH Immigration to present a Proof of Income and employment before you board your flight. Please be guided by this as they are very strict since many Filipinos go to the UAE as tourists, but look for a job and never go home. Trust me, I have witnessed in my very own eyes a lot of UAE bound passengers getting off boarded.

8. Can I work in the UAE with my Tourist Visa?

NO! Although many have done this, but it is completely not advisable!

9. Can I renew or extend a Visit Visa?

You need to check with your sponsor, but in most cases you need to exit the UAE and apply for a Visa again before entry.

10. What are the consequences of overstaying in UAE (Dubai)?

You might be asked to pay a fine (depending on the number of days you overstayed), but worse you might have to face legal consequences. It’s best to avoid this at all costs!

It really depends on how you plan to obtain your visa, if through airlines or hotels they might ask you to book with them directly, so they can process your visa.

I. HOW TO APPLY FOR AN AUSTRALIAN VISA ONLINE (STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE)

STEP 1: Determine the type of Visa you need to apply for.

Depending on your intention or purpose, there are different types of Australian Visas you can apply for (such as business visa, student visa, etc.).

This guide is limited for those applying for an Australian Visitor Visa – Tourist & Business Stream (subclass 600) online as follows;

• Tourist Stream: For people visiting Australia temporarily for a holiday, to visit family or friends or other short-term non-work purposes, (including study for less than three months).
• Business stream: For people visiting Australia temporarily for business related activities (such as attending business/work conferences, etc.) for less than three months.

If you have a different situation or intention/s, it’s best to directly contact the Australian Embassy in the Philippines or VFS Global for more information.

STEP 2: Prepare and complete the Australian Visa Requirements.

Australian Tourist Visa Requirements List for Filipinos;

1. Passport-size Photo (REQUIRED)

• Scanned passport-size photo sample here.

2. Passport Bio Page (REQUIRED)

• Scanned copy of passport bio page (on page 2) with signature (on page 3 in new 10-year passports).

3. SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS (RECOMMENDED)

The “recommended” supporting documents may differ depending on your status and/or purpose of visit. Submit ANY or ALL that are applicable to you;

A) Evidence of Financial Status and Funding for Visits.

• Payslips
• Passbook (scanned pages)
• Personal Bank statements
• Credit Card Statement (with credit limit)
• Bank Certificate
• Income Tax Return (ITR) or (Form 2316)

B) Evidence of Applicant’s Previous Travel.

• Scanned copy of the pages of your OLD and NEW passports with stamps (including visa/s if applicable).

C) Evidence of Current Employment, Self-Employment or Enrollment.

Submit ONE or ALL of the following (applicable to you);

• For Employees: Certificate of employment and it must indicate your position and approved Leave of Absence.

F) FOR BUSINESS STREAM: Evidence of Business-Related Reason for Travel.

• Invitation Letter from employer/company/organization explaining the reason for traveling.

• Copy of contact/s with Australian company or organization (if applicable). And;
  • Any relevant documents that support your reason for traveling.

STEP 3: Create your IMMIAccount.

On this link. Once done, you’ll receive a confirmation link via email to confirm your email.

TIP! This confirmation link is only valid for 28 days. If the link has expired, you can confirm your email, through the ‘Manage account’ menu on your ImmiAccount.

STEP 4: Fill out the application form on your ImmiAccount.

• Click the “New application”;
  • Click “Visitor”, then “Visitor Visa (subclass 600)” and start to;
  • Fill out the form thoroughly and do NOT leave anything blank (write N/A if not applicable).

TIP! If you decide not to complete the form just yet, you can click “SAVE” to record your remarks. That way you can continue where you left off and make changes before submitting your application form by clicking “SUBMIT”.

STEP 5: Attach ALL the documents listed above that are applicable to you.

• Attached each document to its designated label.
  • Make sure to review your application details thoroughly, before submitting.
  • Once submitted, check your email if you get an “IMMI Acknowledgement of Application Received”, (if you do, then proceed to the next step).

TIP! On this page, you will notice that the only required document is your passport (the scanned bio page, the pages with stamps and visas whichever is applicable). All other documents are labelled as ‘Recommended‘. But since this is an online application, meaning the Visa officer is going to make a decision based on the information and documents you provided. I encourage you to submit as many relevant documents as possible, to prove your reason for traveling and to establish your financial capability, as well as your intention to return. You can also submit a cover letter explaining your purpose of visit attached with your daily itinerary. Again, the key here is to convince the Visa Officer to give you an Australian Visa!

STEP 6: Pay the Visa application fee.

• Base Visa Application fee is 145 (AUD) (as of writing).
  • This can be paid using Credit Card, PayPal or UnionPay.

STEP 7: Wait for Visa results.

• Definitely the most nerve-wracking part! Haha. At this point there’s nothing left for you to do, but patiently wait for your Visa application results via email (this is also where they will send your actual Visa Grant Letter, if approved).

In my experience, the entire Visa application process was very easy and straightforward. I got my Australian Visa approved after 9 days (via Email). Yay!

Online application is the easiest way to apply for an Australian Visa since Australian Embassy in Manila does not accept direct applications from individuals in their physical office. Alternatively, if you require assistance, you can submit your application with VFS Global as they are accredited partners of the Australian Embassy in Manila.

5. How long is the processing time for an Australian Visa?

15 to 30 days from the time of application (according to VFS Global).

In my case, I applied in 2018 and it took 9 days to be granted a Single-Entry Visa valid for 6 months (with stay up to 90 days). A friend of mine only took hers 2 DAYS and she was granted a Multiple-Entry Visa valid for 1 year (with stay up to 90 days each visit).

6. How early can I apply for an Australian Visa?

3 to 6 months before your intended travel, (but keep in mind that it might be very close to the expiry date).

7. When is the best time to apply for an Australian Visa?

At least two months before your intended travel to Australia is the ideal time to apply for a visa. Why? Because sometimes, Australian Visa processing time takes longer than usual (some cases take even more than a month). Also, it’s always a best practice to allow ample time to avoid complications in your travels.

8. How long is the validity of an Australian Visa?

Usually, 6 to 12 months from the time your Visa is granted.

9. Is ‘show money’ required to apply for an Australian Visa?

This is a bit tricky, but the answer is YES! As mentioned above, other documents aside from passport/s including “Evidence of the Financial Status and Funding for Visit” are labelled as ‘Recommended‘, but not required. If you look closely, it wouldn’t be recommended that very specifically if it wouldn’t make an impact in reviewing your visa application. Besides, this is the only way you can prove and establish your financial capability, as well as your intention to return.

TIP! Make sure to submit as many relevant financial documents as possible!

10. How much is the ‘show money’ to apply for an Australian Visa?

This is not specified anywhere. Nobody knows the ‘exact amount’ you should have in your bank account. But trust me, your financial documents don’t need to have millions, it just has to be realistic!  So, if you intend to travel for a duration of 15 days with ONLY P30,000 in the bank, well that will raise a lot of red flags. In this case you may want to consider applying with a Sponsor/Guarantor.

The amount in your bank account should suffice to all your projected expenses while in Australia, plus some extra funds for miscellaneous expenses. Also, you don’t necessarily have to spend all of them on that trip (which is why others refer to this as ‘Show Money’).

11. Do I need to book flights and hotel/s before applying for aa Australian Visa?

No. You are not required to submit nor book flight tickets and hotel/s before applying for a Visa. Applicants are encouraged to secure a visa first before booking their flights and hotel/s. But, if you already have confirmed flight tickets and hotel/s, you can submit them (this is what I did when I applied in 2018). Alternatively, you can submit a reservation instead as part of your ‘Evidence of Planned Tourism Activities in Australia’ documents.

• FOR FLIGHT/S: Flight Reservations may be a more practical option for you as it is refundable. So, in the event you were refused a visa, at least you can save yourself from wasting your hard-earned money!

• FOR HOTEL/S: you can reserve it online (for FREE) through Agoda.com with a REFUNDABLE option if you cancel it a day before your intended stay. That way, you can also fill up the exact address and contact information needed on the application form.
