I. PHILIPPINE PASSPORT REQUIREMENTS

1. Confirmed Online Appointment (Printed Copy)

Philippine passport applicants who are exempted from this requirement are the following;

1. Senior Citizens + 1 immediate family member or travel companion.
2. Person with disability (PWD) + 1 immediate family member or travel companion.
3. Pregnant (medical certificate may be asked if not visible).
4. Solo Parents and their minor child (with valid solo parent ID).
5. Minor (7 years old or below) + Immediate family member (of the minor applicants).
6. OFW (including Seafarers) with valid ID and proof of employment (such as valid business/work visa, certificate of employment, employment contract, seaman’s book stamped) must be issued in less than 1 year from date of application.

NOTE: All applicants who are exempted can go directly to the nearest DFA office without prior appointment.

• Bring your actual current passport with a;

The passport fees vary as follows;

ASEANA and Consular Offices (Within Metro Manila)

• Regular: 950 PHP (12 business days)
• Expedite: 1,200 PHP (6 business days)

Consular Offices (Outside Metro Manila)

• Expedite: 1,200 PHP (7 business days)

Foreign Service Posts

• Regular: 60 USD (28 to 60 business days)

ADDITIONAL REMINDERS;

• You can settle the payment within 24 hours.
• Additional convenience fee for online epayments may be charged (usually 50 PHP) per applicant.
• Prices above does NOT include ‘Delivery fee’ and may vary upon location.
• Additional 15 business days clearing period for Lost Valid Passports.
• Lost and Mutilated ePassports has an additional fee of 350 PHP (for applications filed in the Philippines, but for overseas filed applications, prices may vary depending on Post).

ADDITIONAL REMINDERS;

• Wear proper attire: no showing off cleavage, tank tops/sleeveless shirts, tube, see-through, and jewelry.
• Companions are not allowed to enter the premises, except for senior citizens, person with disability, minors, and other applicants who need physical assistance can bring one (1), but it should be immediate family member with proof of relationship (such as birth certificate, etc.) or if not, your travel companion with proof of travel arrangements like flight or hotel reservations.

TIP! Once inside, the process is pretty straight forward, there are even visible signs for the step-by-step instructions and the DFA staff are very much attentive as well (at least with my experience). You will be asked to line up several times for each section as follows; document verification, processing, and data encoding (which includes photo & bio-metrics). If you opted for passport delivery there is a different counter for that with corresponding fees which may vary upon location. For as long as you have all the necessary requirements you should be done in no time. In my experience, I applied in DFA NCR-EAST (SM Megamall) twice and it only took around 15 minutes both times (2015 & 2019).

STEP 5: Claim Your Passport.

Head directly to DFA Office ‘Releasing of Passport’ window on the date stated on the claim stub with your original receipt and Valid ID to be allowed to claim your passport.

I. HOW TO APPLY FOR NEPAL VISA-ON-ARRIVAL (STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE)

STEP 1: Determine the type of Nepal Visa you need to apply for.

All foreign nationalities excluding Indians are required to obtain a Visa for Nepal and depending on your situation or purpose, there are different types of Nepal Visas you can apply for, (such as work visa, marriage visa, etc.).

This guide is about how to apply and obtain Nepal Tourist Visa on Arrival, only if your purpose of visit is Short-term or for Leisure/Tourism and you are NOT a citizen or national of the following countries; Afghanistan, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iraq, Liberia, Nigeria, Palestine, Somalia, Swaziland, and Zimbabwe — As they need to apply and obtain for a Visa at the Nepal Embassy/Consulate of their home country or country of residence. Otherwise, they will be refused to enter nor even board their flights to Nepal. On the other hand, Indian citizens/nationals are not required to obtain a Visa, nor even a passport to enter Nepal, but a Valid ID.

All other foreign nationalities (including Philippine passport holders) are qualified for Visa on Arrival in Nepal (proceed on STEP 2). But if you have a different situation or intention/s of visit, it’s best to directly contact the Embassy of Nepal or Diplomatic Mission in your country or country of residence for more information. For Filipinos based in the Philippines, you may contact Consulate of Nepal in Manila.

STEP 2: Prepare for Nepal Visa on Arrival Requirements prior to your arrival.

Nepal Visa on Arrival Requirements List;

1. Passport (with 6 months’ remaining validity upon arrival in Nepal).

• It must also have at least 1 blank page for Nepal Visa and stamps.
• Photocopy of the passport’s bio-page.

TIP! Nepal Visa, Arrival, and Departure stamps can eat up 1 page of your passport, so make sure to have enough blank pages on your passport, especially if you are connecting or still traveling to other countries after departing from Nepal.

2. One (1) Passport-sized (35mm x 45mm) Photograph (with light background).

TIP! If your point of entry is Tribhuvan International (Kathmandu) Airport, there’s a photo booth upon arrival available for (200 NPR).

3. Visa Fee (from 30, 50 up to 125 USD).

TIP! Make sure to bring the exact cash amount (as much as possible) in US Dollar (USD) because while other online sources claim that payment can be made in other currencies, in my experience they ONLY accept US Dollar. NOT even Credit Card, Indian Rupees, nor Nepalese Rupees are accepted as payment for visa fees. (Fees can be found on STEP 4)

4. Possible Additional Requirements.

You may be asked to present a return flight ticket, hotel reservation, and/or proof of funds.

NOTE: I said “possible additional requirements” because in my case, I was only asked for my passport and photograph, but I noticed a few tourists were asked to provide these documents. So, it’s still best to have it handy to avoid complications in your travel if you were to be asked.

STEP 3: Apply for a Visa upon Arrival in Nepal.

How to Apply for Nepal Visa-On-Arrival:

A.) Tribhuvan International (Kathmandu) Airport (this is the only “international” airport in Nepal).

1. Fill up the “Arrival Card” upon landing at the airport (this can be found at arrival hall).
2. Fill up the “Tourist Visa Application Form” (this is different from the ‘arrival card’) and there are three (3) ways to accomplish the form depending on your preference;
   • ONLINE: You can fill-up the form on this link, but note that you will be asked for a scanned copy of your passport’s bio page, passport-size photo, and the address of your hotel in Nepal. Also, this must be done within 15 days prior to your arrival in Nepal. Once done, you will get a “receipt with barcode”, make sure to bring the printed copy of it for acquiring a visa on arrival.
   • KIOSK/MACHINE: You can fill-up the form, scan your passport’s bio page, and have your photo taken using the Automated Kiosk/Machine available at the airport’s arrival hall.
   • MANUAL: If the first 2 are not available or you prefer to fill up the form this way, then the “Tourist Visa Application Form” can also be found at the airport’s arrival hall and your actual passport-size photo is needed on this form.

TIP! Automated Kiosk/Machine is the easiest and fastest way to accomplish the form, (in my opinion). It only took me less than 5 minutes!

B.) Nepal Land Border Crossings/Ports (from China and India).

The Land Border Crossings/Ports that can facilitate Visa on Arrival from India-Nepal are Nepalgani, Birganj/Raxaul Bazar, Sunauli, Kakarbhitta, Manhendranagar, and Dhangadhi. Nepal Visa on Arrival can be easily obtained from these borders, but make sure to bring the required documents (stated above on STEP 2) to avoid complications in your entry to Nepal.

NOTE: Boarders from China to Nepal; Zhangmu-Kodari (is currently closed), while Gyirong-Rasuwa Ports CAN’T facilitate Visa on Arrival. Also, if you are joining the “Tibet Nepal Overland Tour”, then a Nepal Visa is required prior to your arrival in Nepal. So, make sure to ask for assistance from your tour company before booking such tours. Most importantly, it’s best to contact the nearest (Nepal Embassy) prior to your intended arrival to clarify requirements or procedures in certain borders to avoid complications in your travels.

C.) Nepal Embassy/Consulate of your country of residence.

Obviously, this is not a Visa on Arrival anymore, but if A and B won’t work for you OR you simply want to secure a Tourist Visa prior to your arrival in Nepal, then you are left with no other options but to apply directly to the Nepal Embassy/Consulate in your home country or country of residence.

TIP! In my opinion, getting a Visa On Arrival at Kathmandu Airport is the most convenient way to apply and obtain a Nepal Tourist Visa among others.

STEP 4: Pay for the Visa fee.

Visa On Arrival is Single-Entry and fees differ depending on your intended length of stay in Nepal as follows;

• 15 Days – 30 USD
• 30 Days – 50 USD
• 90 Days – 125 USD
  • Multiple-Entry Visa – 20 USD (on top of the base fee above).
  • As mentioned before, this must be paid in US Dollars (cash only).

GRATIS VISA (Visa for Free), The Visa On Arrival Fee is waived ONLY if you are one of the following;

• Children, 10 years old and below.
• Chinese nationals.
• Non-Residential Nepalese (NRN) card holder and must be issued by MoFA/Nepalese diplomatic missions abroad.
• SAARC Citizens (excluding Afghanistan) who are visiting Nepal only for the first time in a year. These countries are; Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
  • Afghan Citizens can only qualify for ‘gratis visa’ upon the recommendation of the Department of Immigration.

STEP 5: Proceed to the Immigration Desk.

Proceed to the Immigration Desk and bring your passport along with the online form, and payment receipts then submit them to the immigration officer for visa processing.

NOTE: Visa is issued upon immigration officer’s satisfaction with your application (so, make sure to have your documents ready). In my experience when I submitted my documents, I was asked by the officer on how long will I stay and if it was my first time in Nepal, then after that I was welcomed to Nepal with a warm smile. And I hope you are too!

II. VISA EXTENSION or CHANGE OF VISA TYPE

After obtaining your Nepal Visa. Changes can be requested as follows;

A) Single-Entry Visa to Multiple-Entry Visa: This can be requested at Kathmandu’s Central Immigration Office with a corresponding fee of $20 USD.

B) Visa Extensions: If you wish to extend the duration of your stay in Nepal then you need to go to either Kathmandu or Pokhara’s Immigration Office to properly file a visa extension for up to 150 days. The corresponding fees are $30 for 15 days and additional $2 per day thereafter, payable in Nepalese rupees. Travel agencies can do the visa extension request on your behalf for a fee. Otherwise, you’ll be charged 3 USD per day, if overstayed for the first 30 days and additional $2 USD fee per day for visa extension (something you should NOT consider)!

• Photo size: 4.5cm x 4.5cm (against white background).

3. Indian E-Visa Fee

The Indian E-Visa fee varies depending on which website you submitted your application (including the number of entries and validity of E-Visa you selected. It’s basically how and where you obtain your E-Visa.

NOTE: Prepare certain details/information of your travel in India such as intended entry and exit dates, name of air/seaport (point of entry), your hotels address, and contact number in India.

STEP 3: Apply for an Indian E-Visa Online.

How to apply for an Indian E-Visa Online

Go to the Indian Visa Online website.

• Click on “e-Visa Application” and;
• Fill out a short form (and make sure to tick e-Tourist Visa, then the number of entries you prefer before clicking “Continue“. On the next page;
• Fill out the long form and make sure all details are correct, specially for passport details (and email because that’s where you will receive your E-Visa).

NOTE: For the question regarding your “References in India”, if you don’t have any, then that means, hotel’s information that you will be staying in India. Paid hotel booking is NOT a requirement, but you can Reserve one online (for FREE) through Agoda.com with a REFUNDABLE option if you cancel it a day before your intended stay. That way, you can also fill up the exact address and contact information needed on the application form.

TIP! The ‘Save’ button is meant to record all the details that you have already entered, so you can continue later on. But, for some apparent reasons, it was not working during my time, even the link that they sent me for the ‘pay later’ option, was prompting me to fill out the form All Over Again! Hopefully, you won’t go through the same thing, otherwise I suggest to finish everything in one go, including the payment.

STEP 4: Pay the Visa Fee.

Select either SBI or Axis whichever you prefer, (mine was SBI).

• For SBI, the next page will prompt you to pay via Credit Card, Debit Card or PayPal.
  • Credit Card: Visa and MasterCard are accepted.
  • Debit Card: Visa, MasterCard, and Maestro are accepted.

NOTE: Once Payment is done, you will receive a confirmation with an application ID.

STEP 5: Wait for your E-Visa application results.

According to the email I received; E-Visa application may take up to 72 hours, but I actually got mine in just 32 hours. Yay!

TIP! If approved, it’s always a best practice to check and make sure all information on your E-Visa is correct to avoid complications in your travels. Good Luck!

STEP 6: Print your E-Visa.

Printed copy of your Indian E-Visa is needed by the Immigration upon entry in India.

They will also stamp your E-Visa on your passport, so you won’t need the printed copy after that.

That’s it! This is one of the simplest Visa applications I have ever experienced so far. So, you shouldn’t have any issues in getting your Indian E-Visa, but if you do, it’s best to contact directly the E-Visa Support Center to this email: indiatvoa@gov.in

NO. It’s not part of the Indian Visa Requirements. However once your Visa is approved, I strongly recommend getting one because while India is generally safe to travel, remember that you can’t really eliminate the risk, but you can always add protection! That said, here’s my recommendations;

2. How much is the Indian E-Visa fee?

It depends on many different factors. 1.) What passport you hold, 2.) The Number of Entries of an E-Visa you applied for; 3.) Duration of stay in India 4.) Validity. Plus, A Bank Charge of up to 2.5% of the total value of your E-Visa.

In my case, I hold a Philippine Passport and I applied for 1yr Multiple-Entry E-Visa, I paid 40USD + 1.75USD bank charge = 41.75USD.

The Visa fee for most countries are normally around $40 and above, except for the Citizens of the following countries as follows:

• FREE: Argentina, Cook Islands, Fiji, Jamaica, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Micronesia, Nauru, Niue Island, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Seychelles, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Tonga, Tuvalu, Uruguay, and Vanuatu.
  • $25: Citizens of Japan, Singapore and Sri Lanka.
  • $75: USA, UK, Russia, Ukraine, and Mozambique.

3. Is Indian E-Visa fee refundable?

Once payment is made, it’s no longer refundable regardless of the outcome (Approved/Denied/Withdrew).

4. Do I really need to apply online for an Indian E-Visa?

Online application is the easiest and fastest way to apply, but if you are entering India via Airports/Seaports not listed above, then you need to go to the nearest Indian Embassy and apply for an Indian Visa sticker stamp on your passport.

5. How long is the processing time for an Indian E-Visa?

It may take up to 72 hours, depending on the acknowledgement email you will receive. It should mention the estimated processing time, if not send an email to: indiatvoa@gov.in.

In my case, it only took 32 hours to get my E-Visa.

6. How early can I apply for an Indian E-Visa?

4 months to a year prior to your intended arrival to India, (but keep in mind that it might be very close to the expiry date) and the Validity of an E-Visa you applied for.

7. When is the best time to apply for an Indian E-Visa?

Two weeks to a month prior to your intended arrival to India is the ideal time to apply for an E-visa. Also, it’s always a best practice to allow ample time to avoid complications in your travels.

4 months to a 1 year. Again, depending on what you applied for, you will be asked to choose during your online application.

No. It’s not part of the requirements. I and all the people I know who applied for Indian E-Tourist Visa were not asked to submit any financial documents, (but it’s best to have it handy if ever they ask for it).

10. How often can I apply for an Indian E-Visa?

Only twice a year. If you intend to visit India multiple times or you want to stay in India longer then, I suggest applying for Multiple-Entry with your desired duration of stay, so you won’t have to apply for an Indian E-Visa every single time.

STEP 1: Determine the type of Visa you need to apply for.

Depending on your purpose, there are different types of Indian Visas you can apply for, (such as business e-visa, medical e-visa, etc.).

E-Visa schemes were launched by the Indian Government for foreigners from more than 165 Countries, who would like to visit India as tourists and this Visa scheme can be applied and obtained 100% online through indiaevisas.org. Fortunately, Philippine passport holders are one of them, but Government of India, set specific requirements to be eligible for the Indian E-Visa scheme.

Who are eligible for Indian E-Visa schemes?

In order to be eligible for an Indian E-Visa scheme you must meet the following criteria as follows;

1. Filipinos/Philippine Passport Holders who are visiting for the purpose of tourism/recreation (sightseeing/tours) or visiting to see friends/relatives who live in India. And;

2. Must have a passport with at least 6 months’ remaining validity prior to your intended travel date.

3. Must NOT be a Diplomatic/Official passport holder nor own a Laissez-passer travel document.

4. Must NOT have a Pakistani Origin up to the third generation including parents or grandparents nor they lived in Pakistan. Otherwise, even if your citizenship is eligible for the E-Visa scheme, you will be disqualified. Lastly, your;

5. Point of Entry should be ONE of the following;

A.) AIRPORTS of: Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bagdogra, Bengaluru, Calicut, Chennai, Chandigarh, Cochin, Coimbatore, Delhi, Gaya, Goa, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mangalore, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Tiruchirapalli, Trivandrum, or Varanasi. OR;

B.) SEA PORTS of: Chennai, Cochin, Goa, Kochi, Mangalore, or Mumbai.

• If you are wondering why just these entry points, it’s because they are the only borders/checkpoints who accept and can facilitate an E-VISA schemes.

NOTE: If you are a Journalist, Intent to work for NGO/volunteering activities, or Intend to attend work conferences in India, there’s a different type of visa for that! Submit your Visa application to Embassy of India in Manila or the nearest Indian Embassy. For all other situations or intentions of visit, it’s best to directly contact the Bureau of Immigration of India for more information.

Now, after careful considerations, and you are sure that you are eligible for an Indian E-Visa scheme based on the criteria listed above, then proceed (to STEP 2).

Who are eligible foreign nationals to enter India Visa-free?

According to indiaevisas.org, the foreign nationals who are entitled for a Visa-free entry to India (for as long as they are not arriving from China) are from the following countries;

• Bhutan
• Maldives (Up to 90 days stay)
• Nepal
  • Citizens of Bhutan and Nepal may also have the liberty to live or work in India without any limit of stay. In addition, Persons with ‘Indian Origin Card‘ are also entitled for Visa exemption listed here.

Visa on Arrival schemes were previously offered to most countries, but (as of 2014) the Indian Government has limited it to just Japanese citizens, provided that their origin are not Bangladeshi or Pakistani to be eligible for this visa scheme with a validity of up to 30 days.

Depending on your intention or purpose, there are different types of United Arab Emirates (Dubai) Visas you can apply for (such as business visa, resident visa, etc.).

This guide is for those applying for UAE (Dubai) TOURIST VISA, if the purpose of visit is for tourism or to see family and friends who live in the United Arab Emirates.

If you have a different situation or intention/s, it’s best to directly contact the United Arab Emirates’ Government Portal for more information.

STEP 2: Prepare and complete the UAE Visa Requirements.

• The visa fee varies depending on how or where you obtain your visa, (in my case, I paid 430AED).

4. Accomplished Visa Application Form (by your sponsor).

• If you are sponsored by someone from UAE, a copy of their Resident Visa or Emirates ID Card (whichever is applicable).

STEP 3: Submit your Visa Application.

In order to submit your application, you need to have a sponsor (either Individual or Nonindividual) from the UAE to process your Visa. This can be a relative or a friend who lives in UAE, an airline, hotel, or a travel agency.

A) FOR INDIVIDUAL SPONSOR: A family or a friend who lives in UAE with a valid Resident Visa or Emirates ID can sponsor you a Visa (or apply on your behalf), just send them the requirements listed above.

If you don’t know any individual who lives in UAE, you may apply through any of the following:

B) FOR AIRLINES: Emirates and Etihad can process your visa, but you need to have a confirmed ticket/s with them before they can sponsor you a visa.

2. How much is the UAE (Dubai) Visa fee?

In my case, it was around 430AED, but the visa fee varies depending on how you plan to apply and obtain your UAE Visa. You can check the exact rates of the visa fee with your chosen sponsor.

3. Is UAE (Dubai) Visa fee refundable?

Once payment is made, it’s no longer refundable regardless of the outcome (Approved/Denied/Withdrew).

4. Do I need a travel agency to apply for a UAE (Dubai) Visa?

Not really. Travel agency is one way to apply, but it costs a bit more than getting sponsored by someone you know who resides in the UAE or by an airline/hotel.

5. How long is the processing time for an UAE (Dubai) Visa?

I’m not sure exactly, but I got mine in literally just 2 hours (applied by someone I know from the UAE). It should be within a week or less, but better to ask your sponsor beforehand instead.

6. How long is the validity of an UAE (Dubai) Visa?

It depends on the type of visa you applied as follows:

• Transit Visa: Single-Entry valid for 14 days with up to 4days of stay.
• Single-Entry of 60 days validity has up to 30 days of stay.
• Single-Entry of 90 days validity has up to 60 days of stay.
• Multiple-Entry of 60 days validity has up to 30 days of stay.
• Multiple-Entry of 90 days validity has up to 60 days of stay

7. Is ‘show money’ required to apply for an UAE (Dubai) Visa?

It’s not part of the requirement in getting an UAE (Dubai) Visa, but you might be asked by the PH Immigration to present a Proof of Income and employment before you board your flight. Please be guided by this as they are very strict since many Filipinos go to the UAE as tourists, but look for a job and never go home. Trust me, I have witnessed in my very own eyes a lot of UAE bound passengers getting off boarded.

8. Can I work in the UAE with my Tourist Visa?

NO! Although many have done this, but it is completely not advisable!

9. Can I renew or extend a Visit Visa?

You need to check with your sponsor, but in most cases you need to exit the UAE and apply for a Visa again before entry.

STEP 3: Create your IMMIAccount.

On this link. Once done, you’ll receive a confirmation link via email to confirm your email.

TIP! This confirmation link is only valid for 28 days. If the link has expired, you can confirm your email, through the ‘Manage account’ menu on your ImmiAccount.

STEP 4: Fill out the application form on your ImmiAccount.

• Click the “New application”;
  • Click “Visitor”, then “Visitor Visa (subclass 600)” and start to;
  • Fill out the form thoroughly and do NOT leave anything blank (write N/A if not applicable).

STEP 5: Attach ALL the documents listed above that are applicable to you.

• Attached each document to its designated label.

  • Once submitted, check your email if you get an “IMMI Acknowledgement of Application Received”, (if you do, then proceed to the next step).

TIP! On this page, you will notice that the only required document is your passport (the scanned bio page, the pages with stamps and visas whichever is applicable). All other documents are labelled as ‘Recommended‘. But since this is an online application, meaning the Visa officer is going to make a decision based on the information and documents you provided. I encourage you to submit as many relevant documents as possible, to prove your reason for traveling and to establish your financial capability, as well as your intention to return. You can also submit a cover letter explaining your purpose of visit attached with your daily itinerary. Again, the key here is to convince the Visa Officer to give you an Australian Visa!

STEP 6: Pay the Visa application fee.

• Base Visa Application fee is 145 (AUD) (as of writing).
  • This can be paid using Credit Card, PayPal or UnionPay.

STEP 7: Wait for Visa results.

• Definitely the most nerve-wracking part! Haha. At this point there’s nothing left for you to do, but patiently wait for your Visa application results via email (this is also where they will send your actual Visa Grant Letter, if approved).

In my experience, the entire Visa application process was very easy and straightforward. I got my Australian Visa approved after 9 days (via Email). Yay!

5. How long is the processing time for an Australian Visa?

15 to 30 days from the time of application (according to VFS Global).

In my case, I applied in 2018 and it took 9 days to be granted a Single-Entry Visa valid for 6 months (with stay up to 90 days). A friend of mine only took hers 2 DAYS and she was granted a Multiple-Entry Visa valid for 1 year (with stay up to 90 days each visit).

6. How early can I apply for an Australian Visa?

3 to 6 months before your intended travel, (but keep in mind that it might be very close to the expiry date).

7. When is the best time to apply for an Australian Visa?

At least two months before your intended travel to Australia is the ideal time to apply for a visa. Why? Because sometimes, Australian Visa processing time takes longer than usual (some cases take even more than a month). Also, it’s always a best practice to allow ample time to avoid complications in your travels.

8. How long is the validity of an Australian Visa?

Usually, 6 to 12 months from the time your Visa is granted.

9. Is ‘show money’ required to apply for an Australian Visa?

This is a bit tricky, but the answer is YES! As mentioned above, other documents aside from passport/s including “Evidence of the Financial Status and Funding for Visit” are labelled as ‘Recommended‘, but not required. If you look closely, it wouldn’t be recommended that very specifically if it wouldn’t make an impact in reviewing your visa application. Besides, this is the only way you can prove and establish your financial capability, as well as your intention to return.

10. How much is the ‘show money’ to apply for an Australian Visa?

This is not specified anywhere. Nobody knows the ‘exact amount’ you should have in your bank account. But trust me, your financial documents don’t need to have millions, it just has to be realistic!  So, if you intend to travel for a duration of 15 days with ONLY P30,000 in the bank, well that will raise a lot of red flags. In this case you may want to consider applying with a Sponsor/Guarantor.

The amount in your bank account should suffice to all your projected expenses while in Australia, plus some extra funds for miscellaneous expenses. Also, you don’t necessarily have to spend all of them on that trip (which is why others refer to this as ‘Show Money’).

11. Do I need to book flights and hotel/s before applying for aa Australian Visa?

No. You are not required to submit nor book flight tickets and hotel/s before applying for a Visa. Applicants are encouraged to secure a visa first before booking their flights and hotel/s. But, if you already have confirmed flight tickets and hotel/s, you can submit them (this is what I did when I applied in 2018). Alternatively, you can submit a reservation instead as part of your ‘Evidence of Planned Tourism Activities in Australia’ documents.

• FOR FLIGHT/S: Flight Reservations may be a more practical option for you as it is refundable. So, in the event you were refused a visa, at least you can save yourself from wasting your hard-earned money!

• FOR HOTEL/S: you can reserve it online (for FREE) through Agoda.com with a REFUNDABLE option if you cancel it a day before your intended stay. That way, you can also fill up the exact address and contact information needed on the application form.

Depending on your purpose, there are different types of Chinese Visas you can apply for, (such as business visa, student visa, etc.).

This guide is for those applying for a CHINESE TOURIST VISA (L), only if your purpose of visit is Short-term or for Leisure/Tourism.

If you have a different situation or intention/s, it’s best to directly contact the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Philippines for more information.

STEP 2: Prepare and complete the Chinese Visa Requirements.

Chinese Tourist Visa Requirements List for Filipinos;

1. Philippine Passport/s 

Philippines passport must have at least 6 months’ remaining validity prior to your intended travel date with 1 blank page for stamps.

• This passport must be in good condition and have a signature (on page 3 in new 10-year passports).
• Photocopy of your CURRENT Passport’s BIO PAGE and EMERGENCY PAGE.
  • If you don’t have old passports, meaning your current passport is your first passport, mention it on Item 3.7 of the application form. 
• OLD PASSPORT/s (only if applicable)
  • If you still have your Old Passport/s, then you also need to SUBMIT them.
  • If your Old Passport/s is/are lost or stolen, mention it on Item 3.7 of the application form and submit an Affidavit of Lost.

5. Flight Reservations or Tickets

Submit a Round-trip flight reservations/tickets to and from China with a reservation number (under your name).

6. Hotel Reservations

Submit hotel reservations (under your name).

7. Invitation Letter (only if applicable)

Only applicable if invited by a Chinese National/Citizen (if not then you can skip this).
A) Passport’s photocopy of the host (Chinese National/Citizen).
B) Proof of relationship such as birth certificates, marriage certificate, or certificate of kinship issued by the Chinese Public Security Bureau or notarized certification of kinship.
C) Invitation letter from your host (Chinese National/Citizen).

• The invitation letter MUST indicate the following:
  • APPLICANT’S; full name, gender, birthdate , and the relationship of the inviter with the applicant.
  • INVITER’S; full name (and/or company/organization name if applicable), complete address, contact numbers, official stamp, and signature.
  • TRAVEL information; stating the purpose of visit, arrival and departure dates, places to visit, and financial source for the travel expenses in China.

NOTE: The invitation letter can be a photocopy, printout, or form of fax, but the Embassy may require the original copy.  

8. FINANCIAL AND EMPLOYMENT DOCUMENTS

 A. FOR PAST CHINESE VISA HOLDERS (if not, move to letter B)

• If you’ve had Chinese Visa before (Used/Expired/or Still Valid), you are NOT required to submit the financial and employment documents. BUT, you have to provide the following:
  • Passport that contains the past Chinese Visa/s.
    • If the visa is on your old passport, you should also submit your old passport.
  • Photocopy of your past Chinese Visa/s. Then; (move to #9)

 B. FOR FIRST TIME APPLICANTS

The following documents are required to prove and establish your financial capability to cover all your expenses throughout the trip as well as your intention to return. The supporting documents differ depending on your status as follows:

• Bank Certificate: Must be issued within 3 months from the date of your visa application along with the official receipt (so make sure to ask for receipt of your bank certificate when you get one).
  • Bank Statements for the last 6 months from the date of your visa application.
  • BIR-stamped Income Tax Return Form (ITR).
• If Employed: Submit a copy of your Company ID and Certificate of Employment (with salary and length of employment indicated).
• PRC/Professional ID (only if applicable)
• Student ID (only if you’re currently enrolled).

NOTE: Make sure all documents are clear, readable, and the application Form must be filled up truthfully.

TIP! You can also submit any other documents that prove the reason for your travel (such as medical certificate, event invitations, etc.).

STEP 3: Submit your Visa application.

This is quite tricky. But in my experience, as well as all the people I know who applied for Chinese Tourist Visa, submitted an application at least a month or two before the intended trip and by far, none of us had any complications with the processing time nor our visas.

8. How long is the validity of the Chinese Visa?

According to the Embassy’s official website: Usually the validity of a “Single-Entry” or “Double-Entry” (L) Visa is 90 days or 180 days from the date of issue. This means that the holder of the visa shall enter China no later than 90 days or 180 days from the date of issue. Otherwise, the visa will expire, null, and void. Normally the duration of stay of a “L” Visa is from 14 to 30 days from the date of entry. Found on this link. In my case, it was only 14 days.

In addition, for the ‘Multiple-Entry Visa‘ category; this means you can visit China multiple times (and stay up to 30 days each time) within the validity as follows:

• 6mos Multiple-Entry Visas – are valid for 6 months from date of approval.
• 1yr Multiple-Entry Visas – are valid for 1 year from date of approval.

9. Is ‘show money’ required to apply for a Chinese Visa?

YES! The Chinese Embassy requires financial documents for a reason and that is to establish your financial capability to cover all your expenses while in China, as well as your intention to return. If your trip is sponsored by someone, you need to submit their financial documents instead.

10. How much is the ‘show money’ to apply for a Chinese Visa?

The Chinese Embassy did not specify how much money you should have in the bank. It may be because it varies from person to person and the amount can also be totally different for everybody. But trust me, your financial documents don’t need to have millions, it just has to be realistic! So, if you intend to travel for a duration of 15 days with ONLY P20,000 in the bank, well that will raise a lot of red flags. In this case, you may want to consider applying with a Sponsor/Guarantor.

Most people I know who applied have P100,000+ in their bank accounts and are pretty successful in getting a Chinese Visa. I’m not sure if this is the minimum amount that the Embassy considers, but most travel agencies I’ve consulted said the same amount. Again, this is not confirmed by the Embassy!

11. Do I need to book flights and hotel/s before applying for a Chinese Visa?

No. Paid flight tickets and hotel/s are not required, but RESERVATIONS (under your name with reservation numbers) are required!

• If you already have paid flight tickets and hotel/s, you can submit them. (This is what I did when I applied in 2018), but again, this is not required.

TIP! Flight and hotel/s reservations are crucial requirements, so make sure to submit them, failure to do so will result in an outright Visa Refusal! If you don’t have confirmed flight tickets yet, then Flight Reservations may be a more practical option for you. First, this is accepted by The Chinese Embassy and second, it is refundable. So, in the event you were refused a visa, at least you can save yourself from wasting your hard-earned money!

I. HOW TO APPLY FOR A SOUTH KOREAN TOURIST VISA (STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE)

STEP 1: Determine the type of Visa you need to apply for.

Depending on your purpose, there are different types of Korean Visas you can apply for, (such as business visa, student visa, etc.). You may skip applying for a Korean Visa, ONLY if you are qualified to: South Korea Visa-free Program for Filipinos.

This guide is for those applying for a KOREAN TOURIST VISA (with and without sponsor/invitation) only if the purpose of visit is Short-term or for Leisure/Tourism.

If you have a different situation or intention/s, it’s best to directly contact the Embassy of Korea in the Philippines for more information.

STEP 2: Prepare and complete the Korean Visa Requirements.

Make sure all documents are clear and readable. Read this: KOREAN VISA REQUIREMENTS LIST for Filipinos.

TIP! You can also submit other relevant documents that prove the reason for your travel (such as medical certificate, invitation letter, etc.).

STEP 3: Find an accredited travel agency by The Korean Embassy.

As of July, 2018, due to the rapid increase of Visa applicants, The Embassy of Korea in the Philippines no longer accepts direct applications from individuals applying for Tourist Visa except for special cases (such as a spouse or child of a Korean national/citizen, a government employee on a business trip, and the Korean Consulate in Cebu). STEP 4: Submit the documents and pay for the fees.

The Korean Embassy does not charge a Visa fee for stays shorter than 59 days, however accredited travel agencies do and they usually range from (P500-P2,000) as processing fee. For Visa applications of stays ranging from 60 to 90 days, the Embassy charges P1,800 as Visa fee (this is on top of the travel agency processing fee).

TIP! Be as early as you can on the day of submission as lines can get quite long at times in some travel agencies.

STEP 5: Wait for the Visa application results.

Processing time takes 10-15 business days, but take note that this is very unpredictable due to the influx of South Korea Visa applicants. Which is why I recommend applying at least a month or two before your intended travel to allow ample time.

STEP 6: Claim your Passport and Korean Visa.

The travel agency will notify you via SMS/Text messages once your passport is available for collection but, they wouldn’t usually tell if your visa is approved or not. Some agencies offer different arrangements to claim your passport (such as mail delivery, etc.).

In my experience back in 2017, I applied directly at the Korean Embassy in Manila and I got my Visa after 5 business days.

TIP! If approved, it’s always best practice to check and make sure all information on your Visa is correct to avoid complications in your travels. GOOD LUCK!

NO. It’s not part of Korean Visa Requirements. However once your Visa is approved, I strongly recommend getting one because while South Korea is a very safe destination, remember that you can’t really eliminate the risk when traveling, but you can always add protection! 2. How much is the Korean Visa fee?

It’s FREE, but accredited travel agencies charge from (P500-P2,000) as processing fee (for stays less than 59 days). An additional (P1,800) change by the Embassy only for those who applied for Visa (stays ranging from 60 to 90 days).

3. Is Korean Visa Fee refundable?

Unfortunately, it’s Non-Refundable regardless of the outcome (Approved/Denied/Withdrew).

4. Do I need a travel agency to apply for a Korean Visa?

Most people I know who applied for a 5 to 7-day stay with P100,000+ in their bank accounts were pretty successful in getting a Korean Visa. I guess that’s a reasonable amount for that duration and their situation. But, a friend of mine got approved with only P35,000 in the bank for a 4-day stay. It was very risky, but it worked. I don’t recommend it though.

Again, the amount in your bank account should suffice to all your projected expenses in your trip to Korea, plus some extra funds for miscellaneous expenses. Also, you don’t necessarily have to spend all of them on that trip (which is why others refer to this as ‘Show Money’).

11 Do I need to book flights and hotel/s before applying for a Korean Visa?

No. You are not required to submit nor book flight tickets and hotel/s before applying for a Visa. Applicants are encouraged to secure a visa first before booking their flights and hotel/s.

13. What if my Korean Visa gets denied, can I apply again?

Yes! You can apply again after 6 months (from the date of your initial Korean Visa application results).

I. Korean Tourist Visa Requirements for Filipinos

1. Philippine Passport

A) Philippines passport must have at least 6 months’ remaining validity prior to your intended travel date with 2 blank pages for stamps.
B) The passport must be in good condition and have a signature (on page 3 in new 10-year passports).

2. Photocopy of the Passport Bio Page

A) This is located on page 2 of your CURRENT Passport.

3. Previous Passports (only if applicable)

A) Only applicable if you have traveled abroad within the last 5 years (if not then you can skip this).

4. Original and Photocopy of All Your OECD Visa/s and Stamps (only if applicable)

This is only applicable if you have traveled to OECD Countries listed here (excluding Japan) in the last 5 years (if not then you can skip this).

• If you have been to any of the OECD Countries (excluding Japan) then you need to submit the PASSPORT that contains OECD Visa/s and stamps.
• Photocopy of the USED OECD Visa/s and stamps.

TIP! Submitting an OECD Visa/s can expedite and increase your chances of approval.

UPDATE: As of June, 2019, Japan is still part of OECD countries, but the Korean Embassy does NOT accept JAPAN VISA anymore due to several incidents of applicants submitting FAKE Japan Visas.

A) FOR EMPLOYEES

• Original Certificate of Employment: The certificate must indicate applicant’s position, hired date, compensation, HR email address, complete office address, and HR landline numbers (mobile numbers are NOT allowed).
• Latest Income Tax Return (ITR) or (Form 2316). If you do not have an ITR, you may write a letter explaining why you’re unable to provide it. (e.g. newly employed, etc.) In addition, you can also submit copies of your payslip or other proof of income.
• Original Bank Certificate: Should be under your name and must be issued within 3 months from the date of your visa application along with the receipt. Also, it must indicate your account type, current balance, account opening date, and average daily balance (ADB). You are exempted to submit this ONLY if you hold eligible BDO or BPI cards listed here.
• Original or Certified true copy of bank statements/passbook for the last 3 months from the date of your visa application and should be under your name.
• Copy of PRC Card or IBP Card (only if applicable).

B) FOR SELF-EMPLOYED/BUSINESS OWNERS

• For Business Owners, provide photocopies of your Business Registration issued by DTI/SEC (for SEC Registration the pages should indicate the names of stockholders).
  • Photocopy of Business Permit or Mayor’s Permit.
• For Self-employed/Freelancer, submit your latest Income Tax Return (ITR) or (Form 1701A) with corresponding payment receipt from BIR authorized bank. If you do not have an ITR, you may write a letter explaining why you’re unable to provide it. In addition, you can also submit a sample of your work and copies of your payslip or other proof of income.
• Original Bank Certificate: Should be under your name and must be issued within 3 months from the date of your visa application along with the receipt. Also, it must indicate your account type, current balance, account opening date, and average daily balance (ADB). You are exempted from submitting this ONLY if you have been to any of the OECD Countries with USED Visa/s (excluding Japan) or if you hold eligible BDO or BPI cards (as mentioned above).
• Original or Certified true copy of bank statements/passbook for the last 3 months from the date of your visa application and should be under your name.
• Copy of PRC Card or IBP Card (only if applicable).

C) FOR HOUSEWIVES/HOUSEHUSBANDS

• Spouse Original Bank Certificate: Should be under your name or spouse’s name and MUST be issued within 3 months from the date of your visa application along with the receipt. Also, it must indicate the account type, current balance, account opening date, and average daily balance (ADB). You are exempted from submitting this ONLY if you have been to any of the OECD Countries with USED Visa/s (excluding Japan) or if you hold eligible BDO or BPI cards (as mentioned above).
• Spouse Original or Certified true copy of bank statements/passbook for the last 3 months from the date of your visa application and should be under your name or spouse’s name.
• Photocopy of NSO Marriage Certificate.

• If Spouse is Employed

I. HERE ARE 3 WAYS TO ENTER SOUTH KOREA VISA-FREE!

1. Tourists in Transit Through Korea

A) Filipinos who hold a valid Visa/s, re-entry permit, or permanent residency status from any of the following countries; Canada, Cyprus, Ireland, New Zealand, Romania, United Kingdom, Schengen (Austria, Belgium, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland);

• Australia (the visa must be labelled on your passport if not, you must be entering Korea from Australia), and;
• USA (including Guam and Saipan, except flights to Korea via Saipan).

B) No records of any of the following; criminal offence/s (including overstay) in the countries mentioned above, denied entry into Korea, deported or received a deportation order (including fine of more than 5 Million KRW) from Korea within the last 3 years.

C) Confirmed onward ticket to any countries mentioned above or to the Philippines within 30 days after entering Korea (stay of up to 30 days).

D) If you have a transit in another country (that is not mentioned above) on your way to Korea, that particular transit must NOT be more than 3 days. Otherwise, you will not qualify to enter Korea Visa-free.

2. Foreign Transfer Passengers

If you are transferring through Incheon Airport (ICN) for not longer than 72 hours on your way to your 3rd country of destination or country of your nationality, then you can join the “Transit Tourism Program.” You can reserve a slot online through Incheon Airport Transit Tour for FREE, but food and entrance fees of the sites are not included.

3. Jeju Area

Your point of entry (flight or ship) must be directly to Jeju Area with confirmed onward ticket to your 3rd country of destination or to your country of nationality (Philippines) and your stay must not longer than 30 days to qualify for Visa-free entry.
