The basic rule of thumb when it comes to picking the right accommodation in Tokyo is “stay near public transportation” because while Tokyo might be massive it is very well connected by it’s extensive and reliable public transport. In particular, staying near a JR Yamanote Line (loop line) is the most practical choice since most of Tokyo’s top attractions are near or within this loop (such as Shinjuku, Shibuya, Harajuku, Akihabara, and Ueno).

The best areas to stay in Tokyo for convenience and accessibility are Shinjuku and Tokyo Station. These areas are ideal for first-timers, solo travelers, traveling as a family/group or with children, and traveling for under a week in Tokyo.

  • Shinjuku is a practical choice if your itinerary consists of traveling within Tokyo as well as day trips to Tokyo Disneyland, Mt. Fuji, and Hakone.
  • Tokyo Station is a practical choice if your itinerary consists of traveling within Tokyo and other regions in Japan (such as Osaka, Kyoto, etc.), for easier access to Shinkansen (bullet train). (JR PASS).
  • Shunjuku and Tokyo Station are close to each other so staying at any of them is fine, but if I have to choose one between the two, I will go for Shinjuku due it’s broader access to tourists needs.
  • Alternatively, Ginza and Shibuya are also great options for convenience and accessibility as these places are not too far away from Shinjuku and Tokyo Station.

TIP! Shinjuku, Tokyo Station, Ginza, and Shibuya are not really the cheapest areas for accommodation in Tokyo, but keep in mind that spending a bit more in accommodation around these areas will end up saving you so much time, energy, and money since some of the major attractions in Tokyo are just within walking distance or a few stations away from these areas.

Unfortunately, Turkey doesn’t accept Japan Visa anymore and only limited it to Filipinos with a Valid US, UK, Schengen, and Ireland Visa/s. Still, there are 4 other countries! So without further ado, here are 4 countries you could visit with your valid Japan Tourist Visa;

1. GEORGIA

P.S. I. Japan Multiple-Entry Tourist Visa Eligibility

As of 2018, The Japanese Embassy has released an updated qualification of who are eligible to apply and obtain a Japan Multiple-Entry Visa. To know your eligibility to submit an application for this type of visa, you must fit to any of the following scenarios;

SCENARIO 1:

You have a travel history as a temporary visitor to Japan in the last three (3) years and didn’t violate any of Japan’s domestic laws with sufficient financial capability to support all your travel expenses.

SCENARIO 2:

You have a travel history as a temporary visitor to Japan in the last three (3) years and have traveled to G7 countries (excluding Japan) as a temporary visitor in the last three years. The other G7 countries are the following: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, United Kingdom (UK), and the United States (USA).

SCENARIO 3:

You have no travel history to Japan in the last three (3) years, but has HIGH Financial Capability.

SCENARIO 4:

You have no travel history to Japan in the last three (3) years, but has either a spouse or child with HIGH Financial Capability.

II. Japan Multiple-Entry Tourist Visa Requirements List

1. Accomplished Multiple-Entry Visa Request Form

A) Download the Multiple-Entry Visa Request Form here or get the form from the accredited travel agency.

TIP! Be very specific of why you are requesting a Multiple-Entry Visa, if the space on the form is not enough, you can also submit a separate explanation letter.

2. Philippine Passport

A) Philippines passport must have at least 6 months’ remaining validity prior to your intended travel date with 2 blank pages for stamps.
B) The passport must be in good condition and have a signature (on page 3 in new 10-year passports).

3. A Duly Accomplished Japan Visa Application Form

A) Download the Japan Visa Form here or get the form from the accredited travel agency.

  • Print the application form in A4-size paper ONLY (also, don’t staple the form).
  • Application Form must be filled up truthfully and do NOT leave anything blank (write N/A if not applicable).
  • Handwritten and typed/typewritten are both acceptable, but only use black pen or font (pencils or other erasable pens are NOT allowed).
  • Avoid erasures as much as possible, but if necessary, only use double line/strikethroughs. Other types of erasures such as correction tapes or liquids are NOT allowed better yet, start over.

4. ID Photo

A) Photo size: 4.5cm x 4.5cm (colored photo against white background taken within the last 6 months).

  • The photo must be clear (pixelated photo is NOT allowed).
  • Write your name and birth-date on the backside of the photo, then paste it properly on the application form (staple is NOT allowed).

5. Daily Schedule In Japan

A) To download the form and for sample, click here.

  • This is your daily itinerary and activities in Japan.
  • Print the form in A4-size paper ONLY (also, don’t staple the form).
  • Must indicate the addresse/s and telephone numbers of your accommodation.
    • For the question on the application form regarding flight details, you can simply check the airline’s website and copy the details of the flight you are eyeing for. For hotel/s, you can reserve it online (for FREE) through Agoda.com with a REFUNDABLE option if you cancel it a day before your intended stay. That way, you can also fill up the exact address and contact information needed on the application form.

TIP! This doesn’t have to be your actual itinerary, so don’t over complicate it. Just fill out the form properly to give the Embassy an idea of your travel itinerary. Also, this is one way to convince the Consul that you are indeed a tourist, so make it simple and realistic.

6. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

The set of requirements differs depending on your scenario as follows;

SCENARIO 1:

You have a travel history as a temporary visitor to Japan in the last three (3) years and didn’t violate any of Japan domestic laws with sufficient financial capability to support all your travel expenses:

  • Proof of travel history to Japan in the last three (3) years: Submit the passport/s that contains used Japan visa/s and landing permission stamps (old and new passport, if applicable).
  • Proof of Income: Latest Income Tax Return (ITR) or (Form 2316) photocopy in A4 paper. If you do not have an ITR, you may write a letter explaining why you’re unable to provide it. (e.g. newly employed, etc.) In addition, you can submit copies of your payslip or other proof of income.
  • Bank Certificate: Must be issued within 3 months from the date of your visa application along with the receipt. Make sure to ask for receipt of your bank certificate when you get one.
  • Certificate of Employment: This is not a requirement anymore, but if you’re employed and able to provide (COE) then, I highly recommend it. Especially if you’re several years tenured with your employment this really helps increase your chances. You can request this in your company’s HR and ask them to indicate your position, start date and salary.
SCENARIO 2:

You have a travel history as a temporary visitor to Japan and other G7 countries in the last three years.

  • Proof of travel history to Japan in the last three (3) years: Submit the passport/s that contains used Japan visa/s and landing permission stamps (old and new passport, if applicable).
  • Proof of travel history to other G7 countries in the last three (3) years: Submit the passport/s that contains used visa/s and stamps from the G7 countries (old and new passport, if applicable).

NOTE: Financial Documents are NOT required to submit for this scenario, but some travel agencies require these. So I guess, it’s best to contact your travel agency beforehand to make sure. If they do, then you may submit any or all the 3 last bullets on Scenario #1.

You have no travel history to Japan in the last three (3) years, but has HIGH Financial Capability.

SCENARIO 3:
  • Birth Certificate (from SPA): Must be issued within one year by PSAMain Office or Serbilis Outlet Center (Nationwide). If your birth certificate states “Late Registration”, submit a baptismal certificate and School Record [Form 137] from high school or elementary (it must have complete address and telephone information of the school and/or the issuance). If you have NO RECORD in PSA, you can submit a “Certificate of “Non-Record” from PSA along with the birth certificate from the Local Civil Registrar.
  • Marriage Certificate (from SPA): Only applicable for married applicants (if you aren’t then you can skip this). The Certificate must be issued within one year by PSA Main Office or Serbilis Outlet Center (Nationwide). If there is NO RECORD in PSA, you can submit a “Certificate of Non-Record” from PSA along with the Marriage Certificate from the Local Civil Registrar.

STEP 1: Determine the type of Visa you need to apply for.

Depending on your purpose, there are different types of Japan Visas you can apply for, (such as business visa, student visa, etc.).

If you are currently not eligible to apply for a Multiple-Entry Visa based on the criteria set by the Japanese Embassy, you may want to consider applying for a Japan Single-Entry Visa for meantime. TIP! Be as early as you can on the day of submission as lines can get quite long at times in some travel agencies. Also, don’t forget to ask for a receipt as you’ll need it to claim your passport later on.

STEP 5: Wait for the Visa application results.

Processing time takes 5 business days. In some cases it can take less, but sometimes it can be longer than that. Which is why I recommend applying at least a month or two before your intended travel to allow ample time.

STEP 6: Claim your Passport and Japan Visa.

The travel agency will notify you via SMS/Text messages once your passport is available for collection but, they wouldn’t usually tell if your visa is approved or not. And as mentioned before, you’ll need to bring the receipt to claim your passport. Some agencies offer different arrangements to claim your passport (such as mail delivery, etc.).

NO. It’s not part of Japan Visa Requirements. However once your Visa is approved, I strongly recommend getting one because while Japan is a very safe destination, remember that you can’t really eliminate the risk when traveling, but you can always add protection! That said, here’s my recommendations;

5 Business days, (standard).

6. How early can I apply for a Japan Visa?

3 months before your intended travel, (but keep in mind that it might be very close to the expiry date).

7. When is the best time to apply for a Japan Visa?

At least a month or two before your intended travel to Japan is the ideal time to apply for a visa. Why? Because sometimes, Japan Visa processing time takes longer than usual due to the volume of the visa application the Embassy receives. Also, it’s always a best practice to allow ample time to avoid complications in your travels.

8. How long is the validity of a Japanese Visa?

Single-Entry Visas – are valid for 3 months from the date of approval and for a stay up to 15 (but, some were given a stay up to 30 days).
Multiple-Entry Visas – are valid from 3, 5 up to 10 years from date of approval. That means you can visit Japan as frequently as you want within those years and you can stay up to 30 days each time.

9. Is ‘show money’ required to apply for a Japan Visa?

YES! The Japanese Embassy requires financial documents for a reason and that is to establish your financial capability to cover all your expenses while in Japan, as well as your intention to return. If your trip is sponsored by someone, you need to submit their financial documents instead.

10. How much is the ‘show money’ to apply for a Japan Visa?

The Japan Embassy did not specify how much money you should have in the bank. It may be because it varies from person to person and the amount can also be totally different for everybody. But trust me, your financial documents don’t need to have millions, it just has to be realistic! So, if you intend to travel for a duration of 15 days with ONLY P20,000 in the bank, well that will raise a lot of red flags. In this case, you may want to consider applying with a Sponsor/Guarantor.

Most people I know who applied for a 5 to 7-day stay with P100,000+ in their bank accounts were pretty successful in getting a Japan Visa. I guess that’s a reasonable amount for that duration and their situation. But, a friend of mine got approved with only P35,000 in the bank for a 4-day stay. It was very risky, but it worked. I don’t recommend it though.

Again, the amount in your bank account should suffice to all your projected expenses in your trip to Japan, plus some extra funds for miscellaneous expenses. Also, you don’t necessarily have to spend all of them on that trip (which is why others refer to this as ‘Show Money’).

11. Do I need to book flights and hotel/s before applying for a Japan Visa?

No. You are not required to submit nor book flight tickets and hotel/s before applying for a Visa. Applicants are encouraged to secure a visa first before booking their flights and hotel/s.

For hotel/s, you can reserve it online (for FREE) through Agoda.com with a REFUNDABLE option if you cancel it a day before your intended stay. 12. What is the approval rate of a Japanese Visa?

95% is the approval rate for a Japan Visa, according to the travel agency I consulted.

NOTE: This may NOT be the exact approval rate by The Japan Embassy! This is just meant to give you an idea. Besides, not even the actual percentage nor anyone can guarantee you a visa, but only the Visa Officers and how convinced they are with your application.

13. What if my Japan Visa gets denied, can I apply again?

YES! You can apply again after 6 months from the date of your initial Japan Visa application results.

I. HOW TO APPLY FOR A JAPAN TOURIST VISA (STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE)

STEP 1: Determine the type of Visa you need to apply for.

Depending on your purpose, there are different types of Japan Visas you can apply for, (such as business visa, student visa, etc.).

This guide is about how to apply and obtain a Japan Tourist Visa. This is for those whose purpose of visit is Short-term Leisure/Tourism or visiting Family/Friends who reside in Japan. If you intend to apply for Japan Multiple-Entry Visa, it has different set of requirements, READ THIS: Japan Multiple-Entry Visa Eligibility & Requirements for Filipinos.

If you have a different situation or intention/s, it’s best to directly contact the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines for more information.

STEP 2: Prepare and complete the Japan Visa Requirements.

Make sure all documents are in A4-size paper ONLY, clear, and readable. Also, be guided that the list of a Japan Tourist Visa requirements, varies depending on your situation and purpose as follows;

JAPAN VISA REQUIREMENTS LIST for Filipinos (with or without sponsor/guarantor) – This list of requirements is applicable for those applicants who will be funding their own expenses while traveling in Japan OR those who will be sponsored/funded by someone who resides in the Philippines and will NOT visit anyone who resides in Japan.

JAPAN VISA REQUIREMENTS for Filipinos Visiting Family or Friends (with or without sponsor/guarantor) – This is applicable for those applicants who will be visiting Family or Friends who reside in Japan. Your contact person in Japan must be either, working in Japan legally, or with Permanent Residency or a Japanese Citizen.

TIP! You can also submit other relevant documents that prove the reason for your travel (such as medical certificate, invitation letter, etc.).

STEP 3: Find an accredited travel agency by The Japanese Embassy.

The Japanese Embassy in the Philippines does NOT accept direct applications from individuals, except for very special cases. Otherwise, the only way to apply is through travel agencies accredited by The Japan Embassy. STEP 4: Submit the documents and pay for the fees.

The Japanese Embassy does not charge a fee, however accredited travel agencies do and they usually range from (P800-P1,500) as processing fee.

TIP! Be as early as you can on the day of submission as lines can get quite long at times in some travel agencies. Also, don’t forget to ask for a receipt as you’ll need it to claim your passport later on.

STEP 5: Wait for the Visa application results.

Processing time takes 5 business days. In some cases it can take less, but sometimes it can be longer than that. Which is why I recommend applying at least a month or two before your intended travel to allow ample time.

STEP 6: Claim your Passport and Japan Visa.

The travel agency will notify you via SMS/Text messages once your passport is available for collection but, they wouldn’t usually tell if your visa is approved or not. And as mentioned before, you’ll need to bring the receipt to claim your passport. Some agencies offer different arrangements to claim your passport (such as mail delivery, etc.).

In my experience, I first applied for a Japan Visa in 2017 and it took only 4 days to be granted for a Single-Entry Visa. The second time was in 2018 and this time it only took 2 DAYS to be granted for a 5yr Multiple-Entry Visa. Yay! The process is pretty simple and straightforward, although requirements can be long at times, but I swear it’s nothing to the reward of visiting the most beautiful country there is, (for me that is) JAPAN!

TIP! If approved, it’s always best practice to check and make sure all information on your Visa is correct to avoid complications in your travels. GOOD LUCK!

However once your Visa is approved, I strongly recommend getting one because while Japan is a very safe destination, remember that you can’t really eliminate the risk when traveling, but you can always add protection! That said, here’s my recommendations;

3 months before your intended travel, (but keep in mind that it might be very close to the expiry date).

7. When is the best time to apply for a Japan Visa?

At least a month or two before your intended travel to Japan is the ideal time to apply for a visa. Why? Because sometimes, Japan Visa processing time takes longer than usual due to the volume of the visa application the Embassy receives. Also, it’s always a best practice to allow ample time to avoid complications in your travels.

8. How long is the validity of a Japanese Visa?

Single-Entry Visas – are valid for 3 months from the date of approval and for a stay up to 15 (but, some were given a stay up to 30 days).
Multiple-Entry Visas – are valid from 3, 5 up to 10 years from date of approval. That means you can visit Japan as frequently as you want within those years and you can stay up to 30 days each time.

I. Japan Tourist Visa Requirements for Visiting Family or Friends (with or without sponsor/guarantor)

1. Philippine Passport

A) Philippines passport must have at least 6 months’ remaining validity prior to your intended travel date with 2 blank pages for stamps.
B) The passport must be in good condition and have a signature (on page 3 in new 10-year passports).

2. A Duly Accomplished Japan Visa Application Form

A) Download the Japan Visa Form here or get the form from the accredited travel agency.

  • Print the application form in A4-size paper ONLY (also, don’t staple the form).
  • Application Form must be filled up truthfully and do NOT leave anything blank (write N/A if not applicable).
  • Handwritten and typed/typewritten are both acceptable, but only use black pen or font (pencils or other erasable pens are NOT allowed).
  • Avoid erasures as much as possible, but if necessary, only use double line/strikethroughs. Other types of erasures such as correction tapes or liquids are NOT allowed better yet, start over.

3. ID Photo

A) Photo size: 4.5cm x 4.5cm (colored photo against white background taken within the last 6 months).

  • The photo must be clear (pixelated photo is NOT allowed).
  • Write your name and birthdate on the backside of the photo, then paste it properly on the application form (staple is NOT allowed).

4. Birth Certificate (from SPA)

A) Must be issued within one year from the date of your visa application by PSA Main Office or Serbilis Outlet Center (Nationwide). Certificates issued beyond one year are NOT allowed.

  • If your birth certificate states “Late Registration”, submit a baptismal certificate and School Record [Form 137] from high school or elementary (it must have complete address and telephone information of the school and/or the issuance).
  • If you have no record in PSA, you can submit a “Certificate of Non-Record” from PSA along with the birth certificate from the Local Civil Registrar.
5. Marriage Certificate (from SPA)

A) Only applicable for married applicants (if you aren’t then you can skip this).

6. Daily Schedule In Japan

  • Must be issued within one year from the date of your visa application by PSA Main Office or Serbilis Outlet Center (Nationwide). Certificates issued beyond one year are NOT allowed.
  • If there is no record in PSA, you can submit a “Certificate of Non-Record” from PSA along with the Marriage Certificate from the Local Civil Registrar.
  • This is your daily itinerary and activities in Japan.
  • Print the form in A4-size paper ONLY (also, don’t staple the form).
  • Must indicate the addresse/s and telephone numbers of your accommodation.
    • For the question on the application form regarding flight details, you can simply check the airline’s website and copy the details of the flight you are eyeing for. For hotel/s, you can reserve it online (for FREE) through Agoda.com with a REFUNDABLE option if you cancel it a day before your intended stay. That way, you can also fill up the exact address and contact information needed on the application form.

TIP! This doesn’t have to be your actual itinerary, so don’t over complicate it. Just fill out the form properly to give the Embassy an idea of your travel itinerary. Also, this is one way to convince the Consul that you are indeed a tourist, so make it simple and realistic.

7. List of Visa Applicants (ONLY if traveling as a Family or Group (if not, skip this)).

A) Download the form, here.

  • Print the form in A4-size paper ONLY (also, don’t staple the form).
  • There must be a representative or key person on behalf of the group.

NOTE: Financial, Employment, and/or Business Certificates are required for each applicant, not unless you have a sponsor/guarantor then you have to submit their Financial, Employment, and/or Business Certificates instead.

8. NCOV Questionnaire Form
  • As of February 2020, Embassy of Japan in Manila required applicants to accomplish and submit this form due to Covid situation.
9. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

If you will take care of all or most of your travel expenses in Japan, you must provide your financial documents, if another person is funding your trip, you need to provide theirs instead. Required documents varies depending on your status as follows;

A) IF VISITING AN IMMEDIATE FAMILY or CLOSE RELATIVE:

This is only applicable if your relationship with your relative residing in Japan is one of the following: parent, brother, sister, child, uncle, aunt, nephew, or niece (if not, proceed to section B).

  1. Invitation Letter: This must explain your Visit and Relationship with your relative in Japan with their Signature. Download the Invitation Letter Form here: Form in English or Form in Japanese, also this MUST be issued within 3 months from your Visa application.
  2. Birth Certificates: This is to prove your relationship with the said relative. The certificates must be issued within one year from the date of your visa application by PSA Main Office or Serbilis Outlet Center (Nationwide). The Birth Certificates you need to provide depends on your relationship as follows;
    • Parent – Child: Yours + your relative in Japan.
    • Brother – Sister: Yours + your relative in Japan.
    • Aunt/Uncle – Niece/Nephew: Yours + your relative in Japan + parent of your relative in Japan.
    • Niece/Nephew – Aunt/Uncle: Yours + your parent + your relative in Japan.
  3. Residence Certificate or Foreign Residence Certificate: Must be issued within three (3) months (whichever is applicable).
  4. Photocopy of Residence Card or Special Permanent Resident Certificate (must both sides).
  5. Family Registration Certificate: Only applicable if your relative in Japan has a Japanese Spouse or Relative (must be issued within three months). If not, you can skip this.
  1. If WITHOUT Sponsor/Guarantor: This is only applicable if you will be funding your own expenses in Japan (if not, move to #7).
    • Proof of Income: Latest Income Tax Return (ITR) or (Form 2316) photocopy in A4 paper. If you do not have an ITR, you may write a letter explaining why you’re unable to provide it. (e.g. newly employed, etc.) In addition, you can submit copies of your payslip or other proof of income.
    • Bank Certificate: Must be issued within 3 months from the date of your visa application along with the receipt. Make sure to ask for receipt of your bank certificate when you get one.
    • Certificate of Employment: This is NOT a requirement anymore, but if you’re employed and able to provide (COE) then, I highly recommend it. Especially if you’re several years tenured with your employment this really helps increase your chances. You can request this in your company’s HR and ask them to indicate your position, start date and salary.
  1. If WITH Sponsor/Guarantor: This is only applicable if your Relative in Japan will be funding/sponsoring your expenses of your trip.
    • Guarantee Letter: This letter must indicate that your Relative in Japan is funding your trip with their contact information (such as address, email, and contact number). Must be printed out in A4-size papers. Download the Letter of Guarantee Form here: Form in English or Form in Japanese.
    • Proof of Income (any, or all);
      • Income Certificate (Shotoku Shomeisho) from City Hall.
      • Tax return certificate (Nouzeishomeisho: Form 2) from Tax office
      • Kakuteishinkokusho Hikae or Bank Certificate (Yokin Zandaka Shomeisho).

B) IF VISITING a FRIEND or NON IMMEDIATE/CLOSE RELATIVE:

This is applicable if your relationship with your contact in Japan (did NOT match the description of #9 A above). So this can be a friend or a distant relative who resides in Japan.

  1. Invitation Letter: This must explain your Visit and Relationship with your friend/contact person in Japan with their Signature. Download the Invitation Letter Form here: Form in English or Form in Japanese, also this MUST be issued within 3 months from your Visa application. Together with;
  2. Proof of Relationship: These documents can be your pictures together, passport copies if you have traveled together, printed copy of your email or chat messages, etc.
  3. Residence Certificate or Foreign Residence Certificate (Juminhyo): Must be issued within three (3) months (whichever is applicable).
  1. If WITHOUT Sponsor/Guarantor: This is only applicable if you will be funding your own expenses in Japan (if not, move to #5).

2. A Duly Accomplished Japan Visa Application Form

A) Download the Japan Visa Form here or get the form from the accredited travel agency.

  • Print the application form in A4-size paper ONLY (also, don’t staple the form).
  • Application Form must be filled up truthfully and do NOT leave anything blank (write N/A if not applicable).
  • Handwritten and typed/typewritten are both acceptable, but only use black pen or font (pencils or other erasable pens are NOT allowed).
  • Avoid erasures as much as possible, but if necessary, only use double line/strikethroughs. Other types of erasures such as correction tapes or liquids are NOT allowed better yet, start over.

3. ID Photo

A) Photo size: 4.5cm x 4.5cm (colored photo against white background taken within the last 6 months).

  • The photo must be clear (pixelated photo is NOT allowed).
  • Write your name and birthdate on the backside of the photo, then paste it properly on the application form (staple is NOT allowed).

4. Birth Certificate (from SPA)

A) Must be issued within one year from the date of your visa application by PSA Main Office or Serbilis Outlet Center (Nationwide). Certificates issued beyond one year are NOT allowed.

  • If your birth certificate states “Late Registration”, submit a baptismal certificate and School Record [Form 137] from high school or elementary (it must have complete address and telephone information of the school and/or the issuance).
  • If you have no record in PSA, you can submit a “Certificate of Non-Record” from PSA along with the birth certificate from the Local Civil Registrar.

NOTE: If you were previously issued a Japan Visa (expired or still valid) then, a Birth Certificate is NOT required for submission. BUT, you have to submit your Old Passport where the previous Japan Visa was issued. If your trip is sponsored by a family member, meaning one or more of your family member/s will be covering your expenses in Japan, then you still need to submit your birth certificate to prove your relationship.

5. Marriage Certificate (from SPA)

A) Only applicable for married applicants (if you aren’t then you can skip this).

  • Must be issued within one year from the date of your visa application by PSA Main Office or Serbilis Outlet Center (Nationwide). Certificates issued beyond one year are NOT allowed.
  • If there is no record in PSA, you can submit a “Certificate of Non-Record” from PSA along with the Marriage Certificate from the Local Civil Registrar.

NOTE: If you were previously issued a Japan Visa (expired or still valid) then, Marriage Certificate is NOT required for submission.

6. Daily Schedule In Japan

  • This is your daily itinerary and activities in Japan.
  • Print the form in A4-size paper ONLY (also, don’t staple the form).
  • Must indicate the addresse/s and telephone numbers of your accommodation.
    • For the question on the application form regarding flight details, you can simply check the airline’s website and copy the details of the flight you are eyeing for. For hotel/s, you can reserve it online (for FREE) through Agoda.com with a REFUNDABLE option if you cancel it a day before your intended stay. That way, you can also fill up the exact address and contact information needed on the application form.

TIP! This doesn’t have to be your actual itinerary, so don’t over complicate it. Just fill out the form properly to give the Embassy an idea of your travel itinerary. Also, this is one way to convince the Consul that you are indeed a tourist, so make it simple and realistic.

  • Print the form in A4-size paper ONLY (also, don’t staple the form).
  • There must be a representative or key person on behalf of the group.

NOTE: Financial, Employment, and/or Business Certificates are required for each applicant, not unless you have a sponsor/guarantor then you have to submit their Financial, Employment, and/or Business Certificates instead.

8. NCOV Questionnaire Form
  • As of February 2020, Embassy of Japan in Manila required applicants to accomplish and submit this form due to Covid situation.
9. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

If you will take care of all or most of your travel expenses in Japan, you must provide your financial documents, if another person is funding your trip, you need to provide theirs instead. Required documents varies depending on your status as follows;

A) FOR EMPLOYEES
  • Proof of Income: Latest Income Tax Return (ITR) or (Form 2316) photocopy in A4 paper. If you do not have an ITR, you may write a letter explaining why you’re unable to provide it. (e.g. newly employed, etc.) In addition, you can submit copies of your payslip or other proof of income.
  • Bank Certificate: Must be issued within 3 months from the date of your visa application along with the receipt. Make sure to ask for receipt of your bank certificate when you get one.
  • Certificate of Employment: This is NOT a requirement anymore, but if you’re employed and able to provide (COE) then, I highly recommend it. Especially if you’re several years tenured with your employment this really helps increase your chances. You can request this in your company’s HR and ask them to indicate your position, start date and salary.
B) FOR SELF-EMPLOYED/BUSINESS OWNERS/STUDENTS:
  • If you’re a business owner, provide your company ITR (also, a Business Registration Certificate is encouraged to submit, but NOT required).
  • If you’re self-employed, submit your latest Income Tax Return (ITR) or (Form 1701A). Must be printed out in A4-size papers.
  • If you’re a student, submit your School Enrollment Form/Certificate ONLY if you’re currently enrolled.
C) FOR THOSE APPLYING WITH SPONSOR/GUARANTOR
  • Guarantee Letter: This letter must explain your relationship and should indicate that he/she is funding your trip with sponsor’s contact information (such as address, email, and contact number). Must be printed out in A4-size papers. Download the Letter of Guarantee Form Here.
  • Proof of Relationship with Guarantor: If the sponsor/guarantor is an immediate family member (such as parents, siblings, husband/wife), you need to provide an Original PSA Birth Certificate and/or PSA Marriage Certificate (whichever is applicable) to prove your relationship. Must also be issued within one year from the date of your visa application by PSA Main Office or Serbilis Outlet Center (Nationwide).
D) FOR OFWs
  • Submit Tax Exemption Form (BIR Form 1701 for individuals, or BIR Form 1702 for non-individuals).
